The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says the latest developments involving Canso’s proposed spaceport are very positive.
Officials with Maritime Launch Services announced a $10.5 million agreement with reps from PowerOne Capital Markets, a Toronto-based investment bank, May 12.
After May’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, said he’s very pleased.
“Any time any development comes up with some money, and they’re willing to move forward, it’s good news for everyone involved,” he said. “Especially for MLS, and the municipality.”
MLS reps have said the money will help them start construction on the facility and launch their first small rocket in 2022; they expect to launch their main vehicle, Cyclone 4M rockets, by 2023, with a goal of eight-to-10 rockets a year.
Pitts said there’s still a bit of work for municipal officials to do.
“They’ll need some building permits and things like that, (which) the municipality will make available through this office,” he said. “I don’t foresee any hurdles to jump through there.”
Pitts said it’s been good to work with MLS reps so far, and he doesn’t expect that to change.
