The warden of Inverness Co. says she understands feelings of frustration among residents on the Judique water system.
Those residents are in the midst of their third boil water order in the last year; it started in December.
The first lasted nearly two months- from Jan. 2018 to March 2018; the second, which lasted less than a month, was lifted in Nov. 2018.
Municipal officials held a public meeting with water customers in Judique Feb. 5.
Betty Ann MacQuarrie, the warden of Inverness Co., tells The Hawk there was lots of frustration in the room.
“I put myself in their shoes and how (I) would feel if I had to boil water every time it would be consumed in my household,” she says. “It’s very inconvenient, and they had the boil water (order) on over the Christmas season.”
MacQuarrie says the reason for the latest boil order is infrastructure repairs that are needed right away.
She says residents just want to be kept in the loop.
“All they want is to be informed, on a continuing basis, as to where they stand, what’s been done, (and) when do (we) think the boil water order will come off.”
MacQuarrie says they told residents the system should be brought up to minimum standards within six weeks of the meeting.
She says that would put hopefully put completion sometime in mid-March, if not sooner.
