The warden of Antigonish Co. says plans for a new skatepark in the area are coming along.
The new park, which will be on West St. in Antigonish, is a partnership involving officials from the Town of Antigonish, Antigonish Co., StFX and the Antigonish Skatepark Association.
A pair of public consultation sessions have been held in February.
After February’s regular municipal council meeting Tuesday night, Owen McCarron, the warden of the municipality, said the park will be a big addition to the community.
“It’s been talked about for over 20 years- as you go around the province and go around the country, there are lots of communities that have them,” he said. “I think it just gives one more piece to draw people to the community- where it’s going to be located, it’s very central.”
Work on the skatepark is expected to start in June and be done by the end of August.
It’s expected to cost roughly $700,000.
