We’koqma’q First Nation Shooting and Break and Enter Suspect to Make First Court Appearance Today

The suspect involved in the recent shooting and break and enter in We’koqma’q First Nation is expected to make his first court appearance in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court today.

He was arrested just before 3PM Yesterday and was held in custody overnight.

He is accused of shooting at a vehicle with two occupants and for breaking into a local hardware store and stealing ammunition. No injuries were reported in the shooting and the firearm used in the incident was recovered by the police.

The suspects charges include, reckless use of a firearm, break and enter and commit, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.

The investigation was led by Richmond/Inverness RCMP SCEU with assistance from Inverness County District RCMP, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and the We’koqma’q Chief and Council.
