Where to donate and support northwestern Ontario wildfire evacuees

A number of organizations across Thunder Bay are collecting donations of clothing, toiletries, food, toys and other essential supplies to support evacuees displaced by wildfires that have devastated communities across northwestern Ontario.

Supplies/living essentials donations

  • Mikinakoos Children’s Fund is accepting donations of supplies, toys and toiletries for evacuated children and families. Donors can connect through the organization’s website to coordinate deliveries.
  • Superior Inn, one of the city’s main evacuation centres, is accepting donations at 555 Arthur St. Needed items include:
    • Diapers & bottles for babies
    • Feminine hygiene products
    • Bathroom essentials
    • Foot care and nail care essentials
    • Socks and underwear/bras
    • Clean clothes
    • Food (shelf stable, microwaveable)
    • Water
    • Books
    • Boardgames
    • Puzzles
  • Thunder Bay Police Service is hosting a 24-hour toy drive for displaced children outside its headquarters at 1200 Balmoral St.
  • The Northern Reach Rescue Network is urgently searching for temporary foster homes for pets separated from their families at evacuation centres. unable to stay with their families at evacuee centers. The organization is also accepting donations of pet food and supplies. More information is available through their Facebook page.
  • Nokiiwin Tribal Council is collecting:
    • Bathing suits
    • Clothing
    • Games
    • Crafts
    • Snacks
    • Water
    • Toiletries

Monetary donations

“We’ve been so incredibly in awe of the support that’s been coming,” said Stephanie Paxton, Executive Director of Mikinakoos Children’s Fund. “We are just so proud of the people who have been able to come together for these communities, many of whom have lost their homes and all their belongings in these fires.”
