Woman leads police on brief chase in stolen truck: RCMP

After allegedly stealing a truck and leading police on a brief chase, a 36-year-old woman from Scotchtown is now in custody.

The RCMP say the incident began around 1:35 in the afternoon on June 23, when an officer spotted the stolen grey Chevy Silverado heading south on Highway 344 in Aulds Cover, according to a news release.

Two officers then pulled the car over, but the driver reversed the truck toward the police and sped off at a high speed.

The truck continued on east on Highway 104, weaving into oncoming traffic to pass other vehicles.

The truck eventually got stopped in traffic near the Canso Causeway, where the driver again reversed along the highway and nearly hit a police vehicle.

At that point, the officers decided not to follow the truck for safety reasons.

Only about five minutes after officers originally spotted the truck, a 911 call reported a similar looking one on highway 104 heading toward Antigonish, passing vehicles in the oncoming lane, but officers could not find it.

Around 8:30 p.m., the investigation had lead police to Old Mulgrave Road, where officers arrested the driver of the truck.

She faces multiple charges, including fleeing from police and theft over $5,000.
