The MLA for Inverness says work on the Belle Cote Beach Rd. has finally started.
Allan MacMaster says the road is being paved after it sat in limbo since ownership was transferred to officials with the provincial government in 2013.
MacMaster tells The Hawk the road has been in poor condition for years, and the condition became unacceptable during the last season.
“The state of the road got to the point this fall where the company that was hauling the boats out of the harbour at Margaree Harbour for the winter did not want to travel the road,” he says. “What we’re seeing now is the result of years of efforts to try to get the government to fix the road.”
MacMaster says the road is very important to the community.
He says it carries millions of dollars worth of seafood products each year.
“It’s very important that roads, that we’re seeing this kind of economic activity on, are kept in a good state of repair.”
MacMaster says they’re working on the first phase along the coastline now.
He says the second phase- paving from the coastline up to the Cabot Trail- will be done in the summer.
