Sewage discharge bylaw among efforts to support Inverness Co. development

Warden Betty Ann MacQuarrie said there’s renewed interest in housing development in Inverness Co. that’s come since the launch of Cheticamp’s housing survey.

After Thursday’s regular council meeting, she said new construction would be a good economic driver, but would also put more stress on wastewater systems like the one in Inverness.

Their new sewage treatment by-law recently passed second reading, and MacQuarrie said that should help.

“Well it’s going to be up to our municipality to try and keep up. So that’s what we’re trying to do,” she said. “We have a plan for our infrastructure, and we have to make sure that our infrastructure is adequate for our growing population.”

MacQuarrie said new construction and replacing aging wastewater infrastructure are necessary for economic development.
