Did you know you need to re-apply for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit?

If you have applied for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, you will need to re-apply each month, in case your situation changes. Canadian residents are eligible to receive the CERB up to a maximum of 16 weeks. That means, if your financial situation remains the same as it was the first month you applied, you would need to apply each month for the next 3.

Only apply for the CERB through either Service Canada or the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) not both.

Who can receive the benefit? *As of April 15, the criteria has changed/expanded as noted below in italics

  • You have not quit your job voluntarily
  • You reside in Canada
  • You are 15 years old or older
  • You earned a minimum of $5000 income in the last 12 months or in 2019
  • You have stopped working due COVID-19

Workers can earn up to $1000 while they continue to receive the Canada Emergency Response Benefit

Access has been expanded for seasonal workers and others receiving EI (if their EI claim ran out since January 1 and they cannot find work)

A new transfer of funding to the Provinces and Territories to provide additional income support to essential workers who currently earn less than $2,500 per month.

The days you can apply are determined by your birth month.
