Your phone bill is going up slightly but for a good cause

In October, you’ll see a slight increase on your monthly phone bill. The 911 fee will rise from 45 cents to $1.13.

Why the increase? The province is updating its 911 service capabilities.

Eventually, you’ll be able to text 911, and they’ll be able to find people more accurately using newer technology and data, especially if a call gets disconnected or you can’t speak.

To be fair, the charge hasn’t changed in over 20 years. It was first introduced in 2001, so I guess we’re overdue.
