Transportation Minster says it’s good twinning project went to local firm

The provincial Transportation Minister says he’s glad the contract for twinning 38 km of Hwy. 104 between Antigonish and Sutherlands River went to a local bidder.

Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie MLA Lloyd Hines says the tender process was handled by independent consultants and was based on getting the best deal possible.

But Hines tells The Hawk he and most others were hoping for a local firm to get it.

“To develop that expertise within our own province, and to spend that money with companies that are dedicated to Nova Scotia and employ Nova Scotians was really something a lot of people were wishing for,” he says. “We got our wish, they won fair and square, and that’s going to result, I think, in the vicinity of 600 jobs for three years.”

Hines says it’s taken over 2 years to get to this point, but now they’ve signed the contract with Dexter Nova Alliance.

He says construction is to be completed by the end of 2023.
