The mayor of Antigonish says town officials remain behind the Eastern Strait Regional Enterprise Network.
Antigonish Co. councillors voted to stay with the REN at Tuesday night’s committee of the whole meeting; officials in the Town of Port Hawkesbury and the Municipalities of the Districts of Guysborough and St. Mary’s are still considering their options.
After January’s regular Antigonish town council meeting Tuesday night, Laurie Boucher, Antigonish’s mayor, said town officials have indicated they plan to stay, but that could still change.
“We’ve already made a motion of support for the REN, so theoretically we’re there,” she said. “If any of the partners do come out, that does change the structure, and then we’d have to re-evaluate again.”
Reps for all five municipal units submitted notice of intent to withdraw from the REN in March; they’ve been working to address concerns with their provincial and REN counterparts since then.
