Much interest in joining Richmond Co. emergency committee

Despite not yet having its first meeting, Richmond Co. already has volunteers for their new emergency planning committee.

At Monday’s regular council meeting, councilors heard a request by Saint Anne’s Centre to be included.

Warden Brian Marchand said they aren’t the only ones who’ve expressed interest.

“We’ve already gotten a couple of emails from different people that want to be on those committees,” he said. “A lot of people see the need for this.”

Marchand said he’s glad to have the requests.

He said emergency response, to events like Dorian, requires a lot of volunteers.

“You want a lot of people involved,” he said. “So our EMO director will know who to call in an emergency to get things set up.”

Marchand said that’s why they want as many organizations at the table as possible.
