Suspect in alleged Guysborough Co. home invasion has case adjourned

A man charged in relation to an alleged home invasion in Guysborough Co. is expected back in court in the new year.

Police say they were called following an incident at a home in Canso in May 2018.

They say a man broke into a home, assaulted a 55-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman inside, and left; the victims weren’t injured.

RCMP say a man from Little Dover man turned himself in at their Bible Hill detachment later.

Coady Robert Avery, 27, originally faced five charges- break-and-enter into a residence, assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

Avery pleaded guilty to the break-and-enter and two assault counts during an election-and-plea hearing in Oct. 2018; the Crown withdrew his other two charges.

He was scheduled to return to Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court for sentencing Tuesday; instead, the hearing was adjourned, for the sixth time, until Feb. 11.

Police say it was an isolated incident, and all three people involved knew each other.
