Chamber says shop local this holiday season

The Executive Director of the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce says, when you’re thinking about gift giving this year, you should think local.

Amanda Mombourquette says shopping local has knock-on effects for whole the community.

Mombourquette tells The Hawk local businesses hire local people and spend their revenue in the community.

“That money is reinvested in our economy, and basically you’re voting with your wallet, and it’s important to, not just to those businesses, but it’s important to our communities as a whole,” she says. “They will be the ones who tend to invest in our local hockey teams, our local theater groups, local festivals. It’s really contributing to building the social fabric of our communities.”

Mombourquette says a dollar spent here is likely to stay here, and buying local will help keep the money you spend this holiday season in your community.
