Five local fire departments get AEDs

Municipal councillors in Antigonish Co. have provided automated external defibrillators to five volunteer fire departments in the municipality.

They presented the AEDs to volunteer firefighters from Antigonish Co., Tracadie, Four Valleys, North Shore and Aulds Cove at December’s regular municipal council meeting Tuesday night.

After, Owen McCarron, the municipality’s warden, said it’s a good investment in the communities.

“Lots of the fire halls double as community centres,” he said. “It’s important, we felt, that we have those in place.”

McCarron said all fire departments in the municipality now have AEDs.

He said fire departments that already bought the devices themselves will be reimbursed.
