Local sports preview (Wednesday)

There are a pair of high school hockey games on the local sports schedule.

The Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals host the CEC Cougars in the Northern Nova Scotia High School Hockey League.

The Royals (3-3-2) have lost back-to-back regular season games- both to CEC- and are winless in three of their last four to sit third in the five-team league with 10 points, four points behind Hants East for second, and three points ahead of the fourth-place Cougars (2-3-2).

It’s the fourth and final regular season game between the teams; CEC has won two of the first three.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 6:30 p.m.

The SAERC Saints host the Eskasoni Warriors in the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League.

The Saints (7-1-0), winners of seven of their first eight regular season games to start the 2019-20 season, lead the five-team league with 20 points, a point up on second-place Dalbrae; the Warriors (1-6-1), with one win in their first eight games to open the season, are fourth with four points, 10 points behind Richmond Academy for third, and a point ahead of last-place Inverness-Baddeck Academy.

SAERC has won the first two games in the four-game season series.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7 p.m.
