Suspect in Antigonish pepper spray attack has case adjourned

A teen arrested following a pepper spray attack in Antigonish is scheduled to return to court in late January.

RCMP say the incident, which started as a verbal argument, escalated to a physical assault on Notre Dame Ave. in March 2018.

They say three young men pepper sprayed two other young men, who were taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say three teens were arrested and released from custody on strict conditions.

An 18-year-old from Nyanza, who can’t be identified because he was younger than 18 at the time of the incident, faces two counts of assault causing bodily harm; he had his case referred to Restorative Justice in Oct. 2018.

He was expected for a status update in Antigonish Youth Court Wednesday; his case was adjourned until Jan. 29.

Police didn’t proceed with charges against a 17-year-old from Baddeck and an 18-year-old from St. Joseph du Moine.
