Arichat sewage renovations will cost more than expected

Richmond Co. will be paying more than they expected for renovations at a local wastewater plant.

At Monday’s regular council meeting for the Municipality of the County of Richmond, councillors approved spending $10,000 more than they’d budgeted on Arichat’s sewage facility.

The lowest bid for the tender was about $40,000.

Afterwards, Warden Brian Marchand said budget changes like this aren’t uncommon.

“We budget on estimates, and sometimes they’re higher and sometimes they’re lower; its very seldom they’re lower,” he said. “We know it was a tight budget session, so what we decided to do was take it out of the gas tax, and we were able to do that.”

Marchand said they didn’t want to add additional stress to the budget.
