Blue-green algae bloom in Inverness Co. lake

The province’s Environment Department is warning residents around Lake Ainslie of a blue-green algae bloom.

NS Environment says, if you can see the bloom, which will turn the water green and semi-opaque, you should avoid contact with the water.

The Environment Department says you shouldn’t drink from or swim in the lake or cook or wash with the water, and you should keep pets out of the lake because blue-green algae can be fatal to dogs.

If you draw water from the lake for your home, you should find another source of water until the bloom has ended.
