Town officials in Port Hawkesbury are into budget deliberations.
Councillors will hold their second budget meeting Wednesday night.
The town’s 2018-19 fiscal year ended Sunday; councillors started their budget deliberations before the end of March.
After April’s regular town council meeting Tuesday night, Brenda Chisholm-Beaton, the town’s mayor, said they don’t want to rush anything.
“We definitely want to take the appropriate amount of time to talk about a bunch of different variables,” she said. “What are the staff requirements in terms of new things they may need in the various departments or infrastructure that needs either replacing or updating?”
Chisholm-Beaton said it’s hard to predict tax rates, but there doesn’t seem to be a desire to increase them at this point.
