Port Hawkesbury, Richmond Co. officials take ownership of water utility

The Landrie Lake Water Utility is now in the hands of municipal officials in the Town of Port Hawkesbury and Richmond Co.

Provincial officials divested the Landrie Lake pumping station to them; their inter-municipal agreement to create the water utility came into effect Monday.

After April’s regular town council meeting Tuesday night, Brenda Chisholm-Beaton, the mayor of Port Hawkesbury, said Mark MacIver, the town’s deputy mayor, and Hughie MacDougall, a town councillor, will represent the town on the committee responsible for the utility.

“They will serve with two councillors from Richmond Co. (who) would be appointed by that particular council,” she said. “The structure will be such that there will be some staff folks on that committee as well.”

Chisholm-Beaton said their two chief administrative officers will rotate as the chair of the committee.
