Cleanup continues in Antigonish

The mayor of the Town of Antigonish says they’re still in cleanup mode, but they’re trying to be prepared moving forward following flooding.

Laurie Boucher says she doesn’t have an idea of the cost of the recent flood damage and clean-up because it’s ongoing and she hasn’t received a report yet.

She says the Creighton Lane parking lot re-opened Tuesday afternoon.

Boucher tells The Hawk the area was hit twice.

“The Creighton Lane area had a lot of ice in there from the initial flood,” she says. “Of course once that was cleared away, more water came back in and dispersed a lot of ice and debris again.”

Boucher says the water level is receding.

She says they’ll continue to monitor the situation and make sure water continues to flow through Brierly Brook; more precipitation is in the forecast Wednesday and Thursday.

Boucher says they’ll meet to discuss their future plans Wednesday.
