The second week of testimony opened at the Desmond Fatality Inquiry in Guysborough Monday.
Most of the afternoon was spent with Dr. Justin Clark, the emergency room physician who saw Lionel Desmond on January 1, 2017, two days before Desmond killed his wife, mother, daughter, and himself.
Dr. Clark said, throughout his interview, Desmond seemed calm, polite, and cooperative.
Dr. Clark told the inquiry he didn’t have much experience dealing with young veterans or PTSD, so he decided to refer Desmond to a psychiatrist.
“Because it’s a specific patient demographic I don’t have a lot of experience with, that’s was one of the reasons I chose to involve psychiatry,” he said.
Dr. Clark said he didn’t feel comfortable managing Desmond’s care alone.
