Desmond Fatality Inquiry testimony has adjourned at the end of its second week in Guysborough.
Dr. Faisel Rahman, the psychiatrist who saw Lionel Desmond two days before he killed his wife, daughter, mother, and himself in their Upper Big Tracadie home in January 2017, faced some hard questions about the care choices he made during Desmond’s stay at Saint Martha’s Hospital.
But the hardest question was the one no one was asking.
Adam Rodgers, the lawyer for Lionel Desmond’s estate, finally said it out loud near the end of the day Wednesday.
“It’s not a fair question, I’m not going to ask it Dr. Rahman, but it’s a question that’s implicit in a lot of what were asking you here: how come you didn’t see this coming?” he said. “It’s not a question I’m asking. We’re not here to assign blame, so I don’t want to have that discussion.”
Rodgers said an answer to that question is beyond the scope of the inquiry.
The inquiry reconvenes Monday.
