DFO officials conducting whale necropsy in Petit Etang

A dead North Atlantic right whale has been towed to northern Inverness Co. for a necropsy.

Officials with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans say they received the report of the dead whale Thursday, and it was found Monday; the date, location and cause of death are not known at this point.

They say they’re working with marine mammal response partners to try to determine the cause of death.

DFO officials say the necropsy will be done on the shore of Petit Etang Tuesday morning, if logistics allow.
