Federal Funding in Place to Build New RoadHouse Creative Centre

The Federal Government is making a financial contribution to the Mulgrave Road Theatre.

Member of Parliament for Cape Breton-Canso Mike Kelloway made a special announcement in Guysborough last Friday that 2.6 million dollars in federal funding will be put towards the construction of the theatres new RoadHouse Creative Centre. A facility for local and regional artists.

Kelloway says the new facility will use digital and sustainable technologies to support musicians, theatre arts, and visual arts.

Once completed, the centre will have more performance space and retractable seating for up 100 audience members. The centre will also be designed to meet the requirements of the Canada Green Building Councils Zero Carbon Building Standard. The building will have passive ventilation systems, a roof mounted solar photovoltaic energy system, passive solar design, and efficient lighting and plumbing.

Pat Dunn, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage says the Government is proud to support this project and it’s expected to have a great impact on Nova Scotia’s vibrant arts community, and the organizations executive director Emmy Alcorn would like to thank the Government of Canada for this funding and for assisting them with their goals.

The Guysborough based MRT has been recognized as an organization that engages its community and has been entertaining the public and showcasing talent for more then 45 years.

The funding for this project comes from the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program.
