Guysborough fire service to buy land for well access

A local fire department will be taking over a piece of land with the help of council.

The Chedabucto Fire Department approached the Municipality of the District of Guysborough for a $30,000 loan, over five years, to purchase a roughly 85-acre parcel of land adjacent to their fire hall.

Warden Vernon Pitts tells The Hawk they approved the funding at Wednesday’s regular council meeting.

“There’s a well situated on the property,” he says. “They had a deal previously with the landowner to use that, but he decided he was going to divest himself of the property, so they decided to pick it up.”

Pitts says fire protection is a municipal responsibility, so it was an easy choice, and this means the fire department will retain access to the water source.
