Guysborough warden says he’s watching federal race closely

The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says he’s expecting a tight race in his federal riding.

Voters across the country go to the polls Monday.

After October’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Vernon Pitts, the warden of Guysborough, said the race in Cape Breton-Canso is too close to call.

“I’m watching that very closely- I think it’s going to be a dog’s breakfast,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to predict who’s going to be on top of the pile when it’s over.”

Cape Breton-Canso will have a new MP after the election; Rodger Cuzner, who represented the riding for 19 years, decided not to re-offer in 2019.

Pitts said he knows all seven candidates.

“I’m in turmoil who I’m going to be supporting, they’re all good people- I can’t say anything negative about any of them, they’re all straight forward, to the point,” he said. “I think any one of them would give us adequate representation in Ottawa.”

Pitts said he’s interested in party leaders who are talking about pharmacare and programs for seniors.

He said he expects a minority government when the dust settles.
