Guysborough’s new food bank set to open

The grand opening for the new food bank in Guysborough is Saturday.

Municipal officials approved $100,000 in funding for construction of the facility in March.

After October’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, said it was an easy decision on their part.

“I think it’s a great investment by the municipality, as well as the Province of Nova Scotia,” he said. “All positive- I’m looking forward to a good outcome on Saturday.”

The previous location was at the back of the local strip mall.

Pitts said the new facility was badly needed.

“The need was there- they just didn’t have the space,” he said. “It’s (also) location, location, location- they have a fantastic location now, it’s going up toward the school, right off (Rte.) 16.”

Councillors also approved $10,000 in immediate funding to supply the facility in March.

Saturday’s event starts at 9 a.m.; you can find more information here.
