A local MLA says he’s blessed and humbled to be included in the province’s new cabinet.
Premier Iain Rankin named Lloyd Hines, the MLA for Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie, minister of Transportation and Active Transit when he unveiled his 16-member cabinet Feb. 23.
Hines says it makes sense to combine all of the active transit components with transportation.
“There was some in Culture and Heritage, a little bit in Energy, and a bit in Lands and Forestry,” he says. “Now, those pieces are going to be coming together in our shop where we are involved with transportation, active and (otherwise).”
There were changes to some of the more high-profile cabinet posts, including health, finance, education and justice.
Hines says he’s happy to remain in transportation, and be part of the advancement and completion of the Hwy. 104 twinning project between Antigonish and Sutherlands River.
“I think it’s great, because obviously you know the files,” he says. “We’re coming up on four years in this particular portfolio, and it has been an absolutely great four years.”
Hines, who was first elected to the legislature in 2013, says he feels he has one more term left in him.
He says he plans to seek the Liberal nomination in Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie, and represent the party again whenever the next provincial election is called.
