Suspect facing firearms charges in relation to Inverness Co. incident expected in court

A 48-year-old man facing multiple firearms offences following an incident in Inverness Co. is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the case Thursday.

RCMP say officers were called when someone pointed a gun at a woman and her family members while they were in a vehicle in Port Hood at roughly 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

They say the woman, who knew the man, fled in her vehicle, and the man fired the gun four times into the air as she drove away; no one was hurt.

Police say they went the suspect’s home and contained the area; he tried to leave in a vehicle, but he was stopped and arrested without incident.

They say they seized a loaded shotgun from his back seat.

He’s expected in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court.
