Liberal candidate says MP job would be a natural fit

The Liberal candidate for Cape Breton-Canso says he sees the role of MP as the natural extension of work he’s been doing in the community for 25 years.

Mike Kelloway currently works as the Community Innovation Lead at NSCC’s Strait Area and Marconi campuses.

He says that job includes community & economic development and education, and says those are exactly the kinds of things an MP should be doing.

Kelloway tells The Hawk he wants to be a community leader, not just an MP.

“I really want to be an MP that is a partner with the community,” he says. “Not just at ribbon cutting ceremonies, but at the beginning of ideas that are focused on economic development, social justice, social innovation.”

Kelloway says his work, and his volunteerism, have prepared him to bring people to the table and solve problems for the region.

He says he believes a Liberal government is the best way to do that in Cape Breton-Canso.

“I see this as an opportunity to work with a government that cares about people,” he says. “And I care about the people in Cape Breton-Canso.”

Kelloway says he hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Liberal MP Roger Cuzner, who didn’t re-offer this election.
