Local groups receive recreation funding

Officials with the provincial government have announced local recreation funding.

Members of the Margaree Highlanders Snowmobile Club are getting $90,000, Port Hawkesbury town officials will receive almost $70,000 for their new active transportation lane, town officials in Antigonish are getting $54,000, and Arisaig Parish Community Centre Society members are in line for $20,000.

Three local schools are receiving $5,000 each- H.M. MacDonald Elementary in Maryvale, Fanning Education Centre in Hazel Hill, and St. Mary’s Education Centre/Academy in Sherbrooke.

Officials with the Strait Regional Centre for Education are getting $24,000.

Provincial officials say they’re investing $1.5 million to develop and improve sport and recreation facilities through their Recreational Facility Development Grant program.
