Local nominees up for ECMAs

A number of local artists and industry members are up for East Coast Music Awards.

The 2019 ECMAs will be presented during the annual awards show in Charlottetown Thursday night.

Local nominees include Heather and Jimmy Rankin; the Mabou siblings have five nominations between them.

The Town Heroes from Inverness Co. are up for songwriter and group recording of the year.

The Gaelic artist of the year category includes Port Hawkesbury’s Dara Smith-MacDonald and Adam Young, the NicNeil MacNeil Sisters from Mabou, and Inverness’ Kyle MacDonald.

Judique’s Andrea Beaton of Beaton-Plasse is nominated for instrumental and roots/traditional recording of the year.

Cheticamp’s J.P. Cormier is nominated, along with Dave Gunning, in the folk recording category; the Stanfields are up for rock recording of the year.

There are two local nominations for live sound engineer- Devin Farrell of Port Hawkesbury and Mabou’s Stephen “Snickers” Smith.

The Celtic Colours International Festival is nominated for event of the year.
