The NSSAF Div. 2 boys high school hockey regional playoffs resume at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood.
All five teams from the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League are taking part- the host Dalbrae Dragons (1-0-0), the SAERC Saints (0-0-0), the Richmond Academy Hurricanes (1-0-0), the Inverness-Baddeck Academy Rebels (0-0-0) and the Eskasoni Warriors (0-2-0).
Round robin action got underway Wednesday, and continues Friday; there are five games on the schedule, which you can find here.
The round robin portion of the tournament wraps up Saturday; the top four teams advance to the semi-finals Sunday afternoon, with the championship game Sunday night.
Antigonish’s Landyn Pitts, Kara and Ella MacLean and Team Nova Scotia are back on the ice at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.
Nova Scotia, who lost 5-1 to Quebec in the women’s hockey quarterfinals Thursday, squares off with Saskatchewan, who lost their quarterfinal 5-2 to Ontario, in the relegation round.
Game time is 10:30 p.m.
The winner will play in Saturday’s fifth-place game, while the loser will play for seventh.
St. Andrews’ Declan Smith and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles host the Saint John Sea Dogs for the second time in as many nights in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The Screaming Eagles (35-20-5), who won Thursday night’s game between the teams 10-3, have won back-to-back games to sit sixth in the 18-team league with 75 points, nine points behind Rimouski for fifth, and two points ahead of Moncton and Charlottetown, the two teams tied for seventh; the Sea Dogs (12-43-5) are 17th with 29 points.
Cape Breton has won six of the first seven games in the nine-game season series between the Maritimes Division opponents.
Puck drop at Centre 200 in Sydney is 7 p.m.
The StFX men’s basketball team takes on the Cape Breton Capers in AUS basketball playoffs.
The X-Men (7-13) finished the season fifth in the eight-team conference with 24 points, two points back of the fourth-place Capers (9-11), who won three of the four regular season games between the teams.
Tip off at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax is 6:30 p.m.
The winner advances to face top-ranked Saint Mary’s in the semi-finals Saturday night; the loser is eliminated.
