Pirates, Bulldogs open first-round series in Port Hawkesbury

The Battle of the Quad Counties- the playoff edition- gets underway in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Friday night.

The Strait Pirates host the Antigonish Bulldogs in the opening game of their best-of-seven Sid Rowe semi-final.

The Pirates (29-2-1), who won all four games in the season series between the teams, finished first in the division- and the entire league- with 59 points, while the Bulldogs (17-15-0) were fourth in the division with 34 points.

Taylor Lambke, the Pirates’ head coach, told The Hawk Morning Show they want to keep doing what made them successful in the regular season.

“Keep playing fast, keep putting pressure on their defence- they’re a good team, they generate a lot of chances, (so) we’ve got to make sure we’re tight defensively,” he said. “Overall, we just want to worry about our game- stay disciplined, stay out of the penalty box, and make it tough on them.”

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7:30 p.m.

The series shifts to Antigonish for game two Sunday night.
