The StFX men’s hockey team hosts Acadia in AUS action.

The X-Men (7-10-3), who have lost three straight and six of their last seven, are sixth in the seven-team conference with 17 points, two points behind UPEI for fifth, and five points ahead of last-place Dalhousie; the Axemen (17-4-0), ranked fifth in the country, are in top spot with 34 points.

Acadia has won the first three games in the five-game season series.

Puck drop at the Keating Centre in Antigonish is 7 p.m.

 

The two local teams in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League are on the ice.

The Strait Pirates play their first home game of 2020 when they host the Eskasoni Eagles at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.

The Pirates (15-5-3), with wins in five straight and six of the last seven, sit in top spot in the six-team Sid Rowe Division with 33 points, two points up on second-place Antigonish; the Eagles (5-11-1) are fifth with 11 points.

The Pirates have won the first two games in the four-game season series between the teams.

The Antigonish Bulldogs visit the Cole Harbour Colts.

The Bulldogs (15-4-1), winners of six of their last seven, are second in the Sid Rowe Division with 31 points, two points behind the Pirates for top spot, and a point ahead of the third-place Miners; the Colts (13-7-2) are third in the six-team Fred Fox Division with 28 points.

It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams- Antigonish won the first 4-2 at home in October.

Both games get underway at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Cape Breton West Islanders are back in action at the 2020 East Coast Ice Jam Hockey Tournament in Bedford.

The Islanders (2-0-0), who are undefeated through their first two tournament games in the major midget division, take on the Charlottetown Knights (1-0-0), who won their tournament opener, at 11:30 a.m.

The Novas (2-0-0), who are also perfect through their first two games in the major bantam division, meet the Moncton Hawks (2-0-0), undefeated through two games, at 8:30 p.m.

The playoffs get underway Saturday; the championship games are Sunday.

 

There’s one game in the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League.

The Richmond Academy Hurricanes visit the Inverness-Baddeck Academy Rebels in Baddeck.

The Hurricanes (5-2-1), who have won four of their last five league games, are third in the five-team league with 14 points, nine points behind SAERC for second, and 10 points ahead of fourth-place Eskasoni; the last-place Rebels (1-8-0), with one win through their first nine games, are a point back of Eskasoni for fourth.

Richmond Academy has won the first two games in the four-game season series.

The province’s two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams are on home ice.

The Cape Breton Eagles host the Saint John Sea Dogs in the second half of a home-and-home series at Centre 200 in Sydney.

The Eagles (23-13-3), winners of six straight, are tied with Charlottetown for fourth in the 10-team Eastern Conference with 49 points, two points behind Rimouski for third, and eight points ahead of the sixth-place Sea Dogs (20-20-1).

Cape Breton has won three of the first four games in the nine-game season series between the Maritimes Division opponents, including a 7-2 win in Saint John Wednesday night.

The Halifax Mooseheads host the Chicoutimi Sagueneens at Scotiabank Centre.

The Mooseheads (16-19-3), who have one win in their last seven, are eighth in the East with 35 points, four points behind Baie-Comeau for seventh, and two points ahead of ninth-place Quebec; the Sagueneens (27-7-4) are first with 58 points.

It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams; Chicoutimi won the first 4-1 at home in October.

Both games get underway at 7 p.m.
