Local sports preview (Sunday)

The Cape Breton West Islanders finish off their weekend road series against the Cole Harbour Wolfpack in the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League.

The Wolfpack won in Cole Harbour Saturday night, the first regular season game between the teams.

Game time is 11:15 a.m.

The two local teams in the Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League face the same opponents for the second time in as many days.

The Cape Breton Lynx, who are third in the four-team Nova Scotia division, host Halifax, the second-place team, again in Membertou at 10:30 a.m.; the Lynx won Saturday’s game.

The first-place Northern Selects play the last-place Penguins in the second half of a weekend home-and-home series in Dartmouth at 12 p.m.; the Selects won the first half in New Glasgow Saturday.

The Cabot Highlanders play for the third time in as many days in the Nova Scotia U16 AAA Hockey League.

The Highlanders, who lost to Fundy in the second half of a home-and-home series in Truro Saturday afternoon, are in Bedford to play the Basin Armada.

Game time is 12:15 p.m.

The Novas wrap up their weekend on the road in the Nova Scotia U15 Major Hockey League.

They’re in North Sydney to play the Cougars.

The Novas, losers against Truro in Antigonish Saturday night, have won the first two games in the season series.

Game time is 11:15 a.m.

The Battle of Nova Scotia resumes in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Halifax Mooseheads host the Cape Breton Eagles, who are coming off Saturday night’s road win in Charlottetown.

Halifax has a slight 3-2 edge through the first five games in the season series between the provincial rivals.

Puck drop at Scotiabank Centre is 3 p.m.
