Pope appoints new Antigonish bishop

A new bishop has been appointed in the Diocese of Antigonish.

Pope Francis has announced the appointment of Bishop Wayne Joseph Kirkpatrick.

Kirkpatrick, 62, is from Ontario where he currently serves as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto; he replaces Brian Dunn to become Antigonish’s 10th bishop.

Dunn, who served as Antigonish’s bishop since 2010, became the coadjutor archbishop of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth in July; he remains Antigonish’s apostolic administrator until Kirkpatrick is installed early in 2020.
