March aims to Take Back the Night

A group will be marching in Antigonish Thursday to support sexual violence survivors.

The Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre & Sexual Assault Services Association is hosting the Take Back the Night event.

Event organiser, and Advancing Women’s Equality Coordinator, Annie Chau tells The Hawk they’re trying to change culture around sexual violence.

“In many ways it’s an event that is focused on survivors, and that doesn’t happen a lot of times and in many places,” she says. “We want to change our culture, and we want to move towards a kind of community, a kind of culture, that’s safer for everyone.”

Chau says the event begins at StFX with poster making, then a rally and open mic for survivors to share messages of support, and finishing with a march through Antigonish.
