Antigonish‘s mayor says budget deliberations will get underway soon.
The town’s current 2018-19 fiscal year wraps up at the end of March.
After March’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher, the town’s mayor, said they haven’t started budget talks yet, but it won’t be long before they do.
“Staff is knee-deep into the process and will be bringing something to us soon,” she said. “We did receive all of our community grants (requests and) council is in the process of going over them- we will meet Friday and determine how the grant money will be awarded.”
Councillors heard three funding requests at Monday’s meeting.
Boucher said they hope to approve their 2019-20 within a month or so.
She said it’s too early to say what could happen to tax rates at this point.
