Skatepark fundraising continues- mayor

The mayor of Antigonish says fundraising continues for a new skatepark in the area.

Reps with New Line Skateparks have been awarded the contract to design and build the facility on West St.

After March’s regular Antigonish town council meeting, Laurie Boucher, the mayor of the town, said the contract is for the more than $400,000 they have raised so far.

Boucher said plans for the park will grow as members of the Antigonish Skatepark Association raise more money.

“They will have some money to put toward it,” she said. “We’re hoping to get up to somewhere around just over $600,000.”

Boucher said they hope to break ground in July, and have people using the park by the fall.
