Mayor says compost pick-up coming next year

Port Hawkesbury’s mayor says residents of the town will be able to compost next year but says it’s too soon to talk about a specific timeline.

After Wednesday’s regular council meeting Brenda Chisholm-Beaton said, while some businesses are already composting, curbside pickup could be implemented in 2020.

Chisholm-Beaton told The Hawk they’re working on how a plan would fit in their budget.

“There are still some kinks to work out,” she said. “Once we do have a timeline established then we will come forward with a rollout plan, so that we will be able to do some education, and then have a timeline for when the actual composing period would start.”

Chisholm-Beaton said they’ll be planning this year, and is hopeful implementation can begin sometime in the next.
