Mayor says councillors will talk to new MP soon

The mayor of Mulgrave says he already knows what town councillors will discuss when they sit down with their new MP.

Mike Kelloway won the Cape Breton-Canso seat in October’s federal election.

Ralph Hadley, Mulgrave’s mayor, tells The Hawk they’ve got a wishlist of things federal officials could help with, but they want this meeting to be about meeting the person.

“We just want to see what he’s all about, and what we can tap into on some programs, some grants, or anything that’s coming out,” he says. “I want him to be aware who we are and what some of our problems are.”

Hadley says they want to learn a little more about Kelloway, and his plans for the region.

He says they want their MP to understand the unique challenges Mulgrave faces, and want him in their corner on those issues.

“Once things get settled (and) he gets settled in, we will be contacting him to try to meet with him and discuss a few matters.”

Hadley says a few of those matters would really benefit from federal help.
