Mayor says town officials searching for more tenants for former school

Mulgrave officials say they’re trying to find more tenants for the town’s former school.

The former Mulgrave Memorial Education Centre closed at the end of the 2017-18 school year; town officials assumed ownership of the building shortly after.

Ralph Hadley, the mayor of the town, tells The Hawk things are going pretty well, with a number of tenants already in place.

“One industry is renting the gym out during the week for certain days to have exercise and stuff going on,” he says. “We have other clients renting it on a daily basis.”

Hadley says the former school will be the new home to their town office in July.

He says they want to find others to use the space.

“We’re hoping that we can find more revenue by advertising more to rent it out,” he says. “We can’t really afford to close it up or tear it down, so we have to try to utilize it by the town being the anchor tenant.”

Members of a committee hosted a public consultation session for the repurposing of the building in April.

Hadley says committee members will meet again May 21.
