Mulgrave officials adopt hybrid in-person/virtual meetings

Council meetings in the Town of Mulgrave are now a hybrid between in-person and online.

February’s regular council meeting was held in chambers with a limited gallery- and broadcast by Zoom- Monday night.

After the meeting, Ron Chisholm, the mayor of the town, told The Hawk clarification from officials with the Department of Municipal Affairs means there is only room for four spots in their gallery after the mayor, four councillors and the town’s chief administrative officer.

“Your meetings can only have 10- 10 capacity, regardless,” he said. “It’s not like having a funeral or something like that- just because you have all the space, you can’t have 50 people in there.”

Chisholm said they planned to hold the meeting in the Mulgrave Memorial Centre’s gym.

He said the clarification made it clear the meeting’s capacity wouldn’t change.

“Still would be the same thing- we’d only be able to have four more people, even if we were still in the gym,” he said. “You can only have 10.”

Chisholm said they’ve resolved an internet issue that stopped them from holding online meetings for two months.

He said residents can attend meetings virtually going forward.
