Mulgrave officials starting work on fitness centre

A local town is one step closer to having its own fitness centre.

Mulgrave‘s mayor says work on the facility at the Mulgrave Memorial Centre will start in the coming months.

After January’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Ron Chisholm told The Hawk they hope to be ready by mid-March.

“Everybody had rave reviews on putting a fitness centre in there,” he said. “The bikes, the treadmills, the weightlifting- whatever.”

Chisholm said they received a grant from their provincial counterparts, along with donations.

He said the facility will operate alongside the gym in the building.

“A lot of people want fitness, even the seniors- they want a place to go, (and) right now they’re using the gym,” he said. “There’s a lot of people that like walking, and this time of year it’s not easy to walk on the streets.”

Chisholm said they’re still accepting donations as they try to reach their $30,000 goal.
