Mulgrave Road Theatre could expand

The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says municipal officials want to help reps with Mulgrave Road Theatre expand.

Guysborough’s NSLC location moved in June; the old building sits vacant across from Guysborough Memorial Hospital.

Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, says Mulgrave Road Theatre reps would like to move into the bigger building.

After July’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Pitts said the old NSLC building will be offered to other provincial departments first.

“If there’s no uptake there, it will be then offered to the municipality,” he said. “We requested that, if it’s offered to us, the purchase price be $1.”

Pitts said municipal officials would flip the building to theatre reps for the same price of $1 if they get it from their provincial counterparts.

He said an expansion is badly needed.

“They’re pretty well boxed in where they are- there’s a lot of things they can’t do that they want to do,” he said. “With the new location, the new building, they’ll have much more opportunities for programs throughout the communities.”

Pitts said these things tend to take time, but they should have an answer in four or five months.
