Antigonish Co.‘s warden says local officials are getting results from physician recruitment efforts.
Town and county officials joined members of the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation to help attract new doctors to the area in 2018.
After February’s regular municipal council meeting Monday night, Owen McCarron, the warden of Antigonish Co., said he and Laurie Boucher, Antigonish’s mayor, have had several face-to-face conversations with interested physicians.
“The mayor and I have taken many opportunities to actually engage with new physicians coming to the area,” he said. (We’re) sort of showcasing and highlighting some of the attributes and things that this community really has to offer.”
McCarron said one new physician has already arrived, and they’ve talked to a few more who may be a bit further down the timeline.
He said they’re getting results.
“The physicians that are coming in really do enjoy getting that face-to-face meeting with local representatives, and talking about our community and some of the values that we hold as high-end for this community.”
McCarron said they just interviewed someone from the South Africa area.
He said it seems very promising they’ll come to the community.
